When installing a gas cooker in your house, it is most important that the job is carried out by a qualified Gas Safe registered Engineer. Any cooker fitted by someone that is not a Gas Safe registered Engineer is considered illegal work.

Only someone who is competent under the terms of The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, can install gas appliances, for example a person registered by Gas Safe. All gas appliances should be installed by a person registered by Gas Safe and periodically checked on a regular basis at least every 12 months, and records kept of the test dates, any defects and subsequent remedial action taken. Landlords must make this information available to their
tenants. It is illegal to work with gas cookers without being Gas Safe Register, all gas installers must have passed recognised exams to prove their competence.
